On May 27, 2021, the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued new cybersecurity requirements for critical pipeline owners and operators. According to DHS, this Security Directive requires critical pipeline owners and operators to complete a Pipeline Cybersecurity Vulnerability Self-Assessment within 30 days. The Directive also requires pipeline companies to report confirmed and potential cybersecurity incidents to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and to designate a Cybersecurity Coordinator who should be available 24/7.
